Safaris

After breakfast, spend the morning at your leisure relaxing at the lodge. You’ll have the option to enjoy various on-site activities, including birdwatching. The birdlife around Rusinga Island is truly exceptional, captivating even those who don’t consider themselves bird enthusiasts.

From majestic fish eagles nesting within the lodge grounds to the elusive double-toothed barbet, shimmering sunbirds, and swift kingfishers, Rusinga offers a birdwatcher’s dream experience. Over 369 species of resident and migratory birds call Rusinga home, including many that are rarely seen elsewhere in Kenya.

Just a short boat ride away are the Bird Islands—one of Lake Victoria’s most critical waterbird breeding grounds. Here, you can witness massive flocks of cormorants basking in the sun or scanning the lake for fish, while fish eagles glide overhead, providing stunning photo opportunities.

For those seeking more adventure, Rusinga Island offers a wide range of water sports to suit both beginners and experienced enthusiasts. Equipment is available for jet skiing, water skiing, mono-skiing, kneeboarding, kayaking, banana rides, and more.

You can also take a boat trip to nearby white sandy beaches, perfect for a refreshing and energizing morning on the lake. These activities are best enjoyed between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM when the waters are calm, though they can often continue until around 1:00 PM before the lake becomes choppy.
