Midwifery Program Experience

Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through clinical rotations in hospitals and clinics. Under the supervision of experienced midwives, students will learn about:

  • Clinical assessments of mothers and infants
  • Emergency protocols in childbirth and maternal health
  • Educating patients on maternal health and childbirth
  • Providing emotional and psychological support to mothers and families

Skills Development:

The Midwifery Program is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in essential midwifery skills that will serve you throughout your career. These include:

  • Conducting comprehensive prenatal assessments, including blood pressure checks, fetal heart monitoring, and blood tests
  • Assisting women in labor, monitoring contractions, and providing comfort and guidance during delivery
  • Providing physical and emotional care during the postpartum period, assisting with breastfeeding and newborn care
  • Responding to emergencies such as hemorrhage, breech birth, and post-birth complications

Program Structure:

Our Midwifery Program is designed for both theoretical learning and hands-on practice. The curriculum includes:

  • Comprehensive classroom lectures on subjects like maternal health, anatomy, physiology, and ethics in healthcare
  • Extensive clinical practice in real-world hospital settings under the mentorship of licensed midwives
  • Simulation training to practice emergency responses and labor support

Timing/ Duty Hours

During elective rotations, medical students typically work shifts that can range from 8 to 12 hours, and these shifts can be scheduled during the day, night, or weekends, potentially including overnight call duties.
Medical students undertaking clinical rotations will need to work shifts as would any practicing doctor. Shifts last between 8 and 12 hours and can be scheduled during the day, night-time or weekend. Students may also be asked to be on call, depending on the medical settings
